Quick access to metadata

This option allows Nemp to change the metadata of the files in the background when it becomes useful - e.g. for the automatic rating and the play counter. It also enables direct editing of the metadata in the media list (i.e. without opening the window for detailed editing).

Lyrics in the media library

The media library of Nemp must be completely loaded into memory. With very large music collections, this can lead to a problem - especially if the lyrics to many tracks are also stored. Since these are rarely used, it may make sense not to include them in the media library.

However, this also means that the search for lyrics in the media library no longer works.

For more information about the rest of the settings in this section, see chapter Metadata and section Tag cloud editor.

CDDB settings

  • Automatically scan new CDs. If this option is enabled, Nemp automatically recognizes when a new CD is inserted and tries to retrieve the metadata for this CD.
  • Use online CDDB to get the CD information. Nemp calculates an identification number for the inserted CD and starts a query to the online CD database to determine title information.
  • Prefer CDDB information over CD text. The online query is performed even if the inserted CD contains title information in the form of CD-Text.
  • CDDB server. An alternative server for the CD database can be specified here. Default is gnudb.gnudb.org.
  • Your e-mail address. For identification purposes or to prevent misuse of the database, gnudb.org requires an e-mail address. You can leave this field empty - then Nemp will send its own generic address. If you use this feature regularly, you should specify your own e-mail address there.
  • Local cache. The downloaded data will be stored locally. This means that after a restart of Nemp no new online query is necessary. And also not if the CD is inserted a second time later. You can clear the retrieved data via the "Clear cache" button.
